On October 24, 2007 I watched in awe as the Hayden Pack of wolves in Yellowstone National Park swam the Yellowstone River right in front of me. In the lead was the alpha male 541M and one of his pups. Late afternoon light cast reflected images into the river as the two emerged from their swim on the far side of the river. After the entire pack had crossed the river they immediately killed and then fed on a mule deer, the reason they had swum in the first place! This picture is all the more poignant in that the Hayden Pack of wolves were attacked by the Molly pack on October 30, 2007 with most of the pack (including these two beautiful wolves) being killed in the process.
