Sunrise on king penguins in South Georgia. I once again was rewarded for a pre-dawn landing at Gold Harbor on South Georgia as these king penguins posed perfectly in front of the rising sun. 2010 proved to be one of my most successful years for photography so far! I'm looking forward to several new destinations (Arctic Russia and Kenya) in 2011 and hope to post new images here soon! Keep checking back as I post new images from these new (to me) and exciting expeditions!

This Steller sea lion bull is gobbling down a young halibut in a single gulp! I can't believe I even got this image as we were in a roaring rip tide, I was driving the Zodiac with the tiller held between my legs to steer, and I handheld my Canon 7D with my trusty 300mm f2.8 L IS and 1.4x teleconverter. Look at how long those vibrisae (whiskers) are! My what a big mouth this fella has!

Marine iguanas in the Galapagos Islands expel excess salt from their diet of marine algae through their nostrils with a forceful "sneeze". While it is easy to observe a marine iguana "sneezing" it became quite a challenge to capture with a camera as they give no warning when they are about to do this unique behaviour. After finally isolating my perfect iguana against the dark backdrop I wanted I captured this image with the sneeze back lit and streaking due to a slow shutter speed. Achoo!
Purchase This and Other Images This elephant seal mother literally gave birth to her pup right in front of my lens near the abandoned whaling station at Stromness Bay on South Georgia Island. Mom had hauled out high on the beach and was obviously very agitated and uncomfortable. She continually cried out and wriggled her body to get ready for the birth. Once the pup's head emerged first, it took only 12 minutes to push the pup out of her body, breaking the umbilical cord with a final contraction. Mom and pup immediately started calling and nuzzling, imprinting voice and scent for future recognition! ![]() |

Purchase This and Other Images This frigatebird is trying to steal a small fish called a halfbeak right out of the mouth of a Nazca Booby in mid-flight! The frigatebird failed this time and the booby got away with its dinner! Image was shot using a Canon 7D camera and 300mm lens with a 1.4x teleconverter in the Galapagos Islands. |

Welcome to my website, WildlifeImages.net. Here you will see the results of my passion which is photographing wildlife and marine animals in their natural habitat and behavior. The images you see are the animals as they truly are, whether captured on film or on a compact flash card, in all their wild and natural beauty. While here please take a moment to visit my blog where you can see what I am up to now and view a few of my newest pictures as well. I try to keep my Blog interesting and informative as I write notes from my journal regarding the wildlife images displayed there. I hope you will also take a look at my Featured Images page.
